Mr. Madhavan Pillai, father-in-law of Balagopal of ukmalayalee.com passed away

Mr Madhavan Pillai (81) passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Luton Road, Chatham, Kent. He was unwell for the last few years and his condition suddenly deteriorated and passed away today 11th January 2021 due to the age related illness.

He is one of the senior members of Kent Malayalee Association. The association expressed their deepest condolences to the family.

Mr Madhavan Pillai is one of the first Malayalees who migrated from Singapore and settled in early 1960s in Chatham, Kent, United Kingdom. He is well-known among first and second generation Malayalee community settled in East Ham, Croydon and Southall who always managed to extend a helping hand to the newly arrived members of the community. He had helped hundreds of Malayalees and provided initial accommodation since 1960s who came to work in the Chatham Dockyards.

His native place is Edava, Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala State, India and his was one of the first Malayalee families to settle in Chatham, Kent. 

Mr. Madhavan Pillai worked for British Rail for more than 30 Years.

He is the father in-law of Mr Balagopal, editor of ukmalayalee.com. Mr Madhavan Pillai is survived by his beloved wife Mrs Vijayamma Pillai and two daughters, their husbands and five grandchildren.

He is a well-known person within the Malayalee community in Medway, Kent and was an active participant in all community related activities.
